THRONGS T0 JOIN INFETEATU.OF M. Shriners From D. C. and| . Baltimore to Attend Events Tomorrow. Colorful, gay thousands will partici- pate in festivities at Maryland Uni- versity tomorrow, when distinguished officials of the State, Shriners from both Washington and Baltimore, “old grads” from all sections and an as- sortment of foot ball fans from all around, converge at College Park for ®. combination celebration of uni- versity home coming, foot ball game between Maryland and Washington and Lee and joint Shrine ceremonial by both Almas and Boumi Temples. Gov. Harry W. Nice of Maryland, Mayor Howard W. Jackson of Balti- more, Imperial Potentate Leonard P. Steuart of the Mystic Shrine, Acting President H. C. (Curley) Byrd of | Maryland University—all of them members o fthe Shrine, will be among the distinguished guests. Robert P. Smith, potentate of Almas Temple, and Whitney W. Jones, potentate of Boumi at aBltimore, will lead large delegations from their own temples. ‘Will Join in Parade. Shriners in colorful costumes of the order will participate in a big parade and demonstration before the game end at t he half. Bands from the uni- versity and from both Almas and Boumi Temples will keep “music in the air.” Maryland alumni will return in the morning 1,000 strong, according to predictions of officials, to witness the first event at 10 a.m., a freshman foot ball game between Maryland and W. and L. At the same hour the girls of Maryland will hold & play-day with Visiting girls' athletic teams from Marjorie Webster, American Univer- sity and Western Maryland. Follow- ing this the intramuralists of Mary- land will clash with Johns Hopkins in soccer. Barbecue luncheon will be served at noon on the base ball field, and at 12:30 the “M” Club, letter men’s or- ganization, will hold its annual meet- ing in the trophy room of the Ritchie Coliseum. Teams te Drill. Shrinedom will swing its bands, and red, green and gold clad uniformed groups into action at 1:45, in a gala | processional led by the 60-piece band of the university into Byrd Stadium, as a preliminary to the foot ball game. | Among the uniformed units from Almas Temple, will be the Military Band, Oriental Band, “Nut Band,” | Drum Corps, Patrol, Chanters and the Legion of Honor. During the interval between halves ©f the games, drill teams from the Bhrine temples will give a colorful demonstration on the field and present 8 mock initiation designed to high- light the event with comedy. Following the game, Shriners from both temples will hold a barbecue at 5 pm. in the base ball park. The principal event for the Shriners will come at 7:30 o'clock, when a selected cast of officers from both temples, headed by Potentate Smith of Almas and Potentate Jones of Boumi, will initiate a large class of candidates in the coliseum. While this is going on an entertainment for women of | the Shrine party will be staged in | the university gymnasium by the Uni- | versity of Maryland Glee Club and orchestra, and there will be motion pictures. He was John Cook, who qualified Tor jury service November 4 when pro- ‘cedure was made to conform with the $upreme Court’s decision in the Beottsboro case.
