NEW YORK, November 15.—Stat- ing that colder weather was an im- petus to buying, Dun & Bradstreet, Inc., in its survey issued today, said: “The most satisfactory progress thus 5 far this month was recorded for many trade branches during the week.” “Although reliance was placed, to some extent, on markdown offerings and special promotional events to achieve the larger volume,” the review sald, “retail distribution advanced § to 12 per cent from the total of the week preceding. “The strong rise in sales a year ago, however, held the average gain over the 1934 comparative to an estimated range of 8 to 15 per cent. “There was a moderate expansion in wholesale buying, volume in most branches preceding. “The chief increase. was in mail or- ders, although fresh commitments made a satisfactory showing, despite the reduced number of buyers in the principal markets. “While many retailers are holding stocks which should have been moved in October, inventories have started to shrink in territories where the weather turned colder. “This enabled reorders to resume an upward trend for the first time in three weeks, with the bulk contributed by sweaters, knitted outerwear, blankets, shoes, hosiery, dress accessories and jewelry.” exceeding that of the week Newspaper ADVANCE SCORED BY ADVERTISING Volume In- creases Sharply in Oc- tober, Review Shows.
