JOAND., IR., ENDS BAPTIST BACKING Bulk of Religious Donations in Future to Go to Non- sectarian Projects. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, November 15.—Non- sectarian projects hereafter will re- ceive the bulk of religious donations which John D. Rockefeller, jr. has given in the past to the Baptist de- nhomination. His change of policy, he has notified the Northern Baptist Convention, central body of the church in the North, resulted from a desire to aid *“in emphasizing the basic truths cem- mon to all denominations, in lowering denominational barriers and in pro- moting effective co-operation among Christians of whatever creed.” Rockefeller and his father, a finan- . cial pillar of the Baptist Church be- fore him, have given millions to the Northern Baptist Convention and its agencies. One gift alone, a memorial to Mrs. Rockefeller, sr., was $2,000,000. Rockefeller notified the convention of his decision in a letter dated last March 7, but made public only last night by his publicity representatives. O'Hara, president of the university, said, after a lunch- eon visit yesterday with the Presi- dent, that an honorary degree also will be conferred on Carlos P. Romulo, Philippine independence leader and head of & newspaper syndicate in the Philippines. The President will go to South Bend from Chicago, where he is to address the American Farm Bureau Federa- tion on the morning of December 9.
