CATHOLIGS URGE BORAH RESOLUTION Administration Asked to Change Attitude in ngi- can Situation. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, August 22.—The Knights of Columbus, decrying the treatment of Catholics in Mexico, have appealed to the administration “to withdraw its opposition to the Borah resolution.” The Supreme Council of the order, asserting that it represented 400,000 United States citizens, unanimously ordered this letter of appeal sent to President Roosevelt last night. Su- preme Knight Michael H. Carmody of Grand Rapids, Mich., signed it. “Keenly Disappointed.” Calling the Goversment'’s failure to act “tacit acquiescence in the perse- cution of the Mexican people,” the Jetter told the President that the Knights were “keenly disappointed” to learn the Borah resolution of pro- test was held in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee “at the behest of the State Department and with your knowledge and approval.” The Washington Government, it #aid, on many occasions “has pro- tested vigorously on behalf of peoples of other faiths when persecuted by other governments, oftimes when the conditions were much less compelling in their appeal” Power of President. Luke E. Hart of St. Louis, supreme advocate, made the motion to send the letter after Bishop Francis C. Kelley of Oklahoma City had told the council President Roosevelt could | stop religious persecution in Mexico if he so desired. “In fact,” said fhe bishop, “no government can survive more than six months in Mexico without the ap- proval of the Government of the United States.” 300 MILES SPEED AIM Campbell and Eyston Sail for Tests in Utah. SOUTHAMPTON, August 22 (#).— Two British speed merchants, Sir Malcolm Campbell and Capt. George Eyston, sailed on the liner Majestic yesterday for the salt flats of Utah, where they will attempt to lower auto- mobile speed records. Campbell, who established a new speed record of 276.816 miles an hour at Daytona Beach, Fla., last Winter, said he never has raced a racing car over a salt course. “My first ambition will be to hit 300 miles an hour,” Campbell said. “My second consideration will be the secur- ing of scientific data on wind and rolling resistance by use of instru- ments never tried before.” COMFORT in hot weather Kellogg’s Corn Flakes — o~—are an ideal hot-weather food.
