D. C. BEER AND WINE PERMITS AT LIMIT Board Says “Off Sale” Class at Maximum—488 Are Li- censed to Date. Holding that the “saturation point” been reached, the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board has issued & warning that no more permits will be issued for sale of beer or wine “off-sale,” except in unusual cases. To date this year, the board has issued 486 such permits, or one more than was issued in 1934, George W. Offutt, chairman of the board, said & positive limit had not yet been set for the class D permits. The purpose of the warning, he said, was to notify those planning to set up eating establishments they could not count on getting such per- mits. In the past, many have spent considerable sums for equipment be- fore getting their permits. ! Offutt said only in the case of long established retail firms would the board be favorable to Issuance of more permits for sale of beer and wine for consumption on their premises.
