NEW YORK, May 23.—Greene Cananea Copper Co. today joined the ranks of regular dividend payers by | announcing a quarterly disbursement | of 50 cents on the common stock. With the declaration, which is pay- able June 17 to stock of record June 17, the company said it was the inten- tion of the board to place the stock on a regular quarterly basis of 50 cents. RATE 1S BOOSTED Advance to Three Per Cent Follows Further Drain of Gold Reserves. By the Associated Press. PARIS, May 2.—The Bank of France, in & drive to discourage speculation and to protect the franc and government securities, increased its discount rate teday to 3 per cent from 2'; per cent. The move came with such sudden- ness that the new rate had to be Bank of France statement which thereby was delayed more than half an hour in issuance. The statement showed a continued drainage of gold reserves‘for the week ending May 17, the bank losing 251, 000,000 francs in gold, representing a total loss of 2,873,000,000 francs in gold during the last six weeks. (The franc was quoted today at 6583 cents.) The gold reserves on May 17 were 79,761,000,000, the lowest since July 12, 1934. The speculative mood of the market was_indicated by increases in many | stocks with variable revenues, while government bonds, for the second ‘time in the last week, took a drop. The 3 per cent bonds lost 1 franc 10 centimes; the 4 per cents of 1917 dropped 1 franc 5 centimes: per cents of 1918 lost 1 franc 5 centimes; the 4': per cents lost 80 centimes. Banking experts said the bank's action in increasing the discount rate was the normal technical reaction to raise the level and thus ease the pressure on the ex- :|change and government bond mar- kets. This same measure was taken by the Bank of Switzerland May 2 and, presumably, the decision was reached at yesterday's meeting of Premier ‘Hog‘T—o; Climbs Further to $10.10 On Chicago Marl By the Associated Pre CHICAGO. May 23.—Hogs hit & new top again today, medium weight bringing $10.10, here since October 15, 1930. The increase, 5 cents higher than yesterday’s top, was scored despite a slight bulge in receipts, as some 12,000 animals poured into the chutes, com- pared with estimates of 11,000. The nickel increase was scored in all classes, with packing sows rising | 15 cents. The market was active after A rather slow and steady opening.
