Harrison. has been plected president of Columbia Typo- graphical Union No. 101, a tabula- tion last night of votes cast earlier in the day revealed. He received 1,267 votes to 903 for his opponent, | Joseph P. O'Lone. The election was regarded by mem- | bers as a definite victory for the so-called progressive slate. William Field was chosen vice pres- ident in a three-cornered race, and Fred S. Walker was elected secretary- treasurer. Other officers named were: Trustee, six-year term, Joseph B. Skelley; trustee, three-year term, Joseph Harvey; auditors, Clarence L. Broughton, William L. Larkin and Philip P. McClellan. Executive Committee—William H. Brown, Edward R. Hangliter, Charles J. Bussius, Robert M. Daniel, Harrie W. Fleischman, Fay F. Hunter, Glen O. Murray and Arthur L. Simpson, representing different departments of the printing craft. Motorists filled the tanks of their automobiies and trucks. The reservoir of gasoline probably came from a leak many years ago in a pipe line leading from a re- finery to & harbor terminal. It was discovered by Cristobal Salcido, when he dug for water in the front yard of his Wilmington home. Those to whom he talked of his discovery laughed until he got enough money to buy & 300-gallon tank truck. With' the aid of his wife and 10 chil- dren he began pumping out gaso- line and selling it. Fire-prevention authorities ordered all drillers to post $5,000 bond as required by law, thus ending the rush. 19,101 Hired in Schools. HOWELL LEWIS DIES OKLAHOMA CITY, May 23 (#).— L. Howell Lewis, a pu.nur. sculptor and watcher of the stars, whose astral predictions won him wide publicity, died of heart disease yesterday at the age of 82. Lewis made his last public predice tion in 1929, when he told Henry S, Johnston, then Governor, that exces- sive electro- magnetism caused by the approach of the solar system to new suns was affecting the workings of human brains, particularly those of legislators.
