FINANCIAD FINANCIAL. THE SUNDAY BSTAR, WASHINGTON, D. ©, KPRiE 7, ¥935—PART TFIVE. o e SUMMARY OF BONDS ON THE NEW.YORK STOCK: EXCHANGE BONDS CONTINU ON UPWARD PATH Rail and Utility Issues Main- tain Leadership—U. S. Group Follows. . By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, April 6—Railroad and utility issues maintained leader- ship of the corporate bond market today as the entire list advanced cau- tiously. United States Governments trailed along with some hesitancy. Favored by the absence of adverse developments, the buying movement which started late Thursday in both carrier and power bonds continued with renewed enthusiasm for the lower-priced loans and at the end of the brief session gains of a point or more were well distributed in these groups. High-priced bonds continued under the spell of refunding opera- tions, and while offerings were scarce, buyers were conspicuously absent. Among active rail and utility loans gelling around a point or so higher were Erie 4s at 73, Great Northern 4'5s at 66, and Western Union 428 at 86'2. Others improving included obhgatlons of New York Central, Nickel Plate, Pere Marquette, South-| ern Railw: American Water Works, | Montana Power and Tennessee Elec- tric Power. The Associated Press averages for the rails gained 6 of a| point at 77.9 and that for 10 utili- ties was .4 of @ point higher at 89.9, a new 1935 high. | In the industrial division best| showing was made by International Paper 5s at 60!,, Loew's 6s at 105 and Goodyear 5s at 1047g. NEW YORK, April 6.—Foreign bar silver for commercial use continued its climb in today’s market with a rise of % cent to a price of 62% cents an ounce, another new high since 1928, At that level, the white metal was up a full cent from a week . Its record low, reached in 1932, was 24Y; cents. Brokers said the steady rise re- flected the withdrawal of metal from the markets of the world by United States Treasury buying program. The American market has been hinging chiefly on London and has been nelped by the rise in sterling ex- change this week. At today's level, the foreign bar silver price in New York, which is in effect the dollar equivalent of the world price, was only 2% cents from the level at which the Treasury has been taking all domestically mined silver since December, 1933. When the rise in the world price exceeds the 64';-cent level, the do- mestic mines will begin to benefit. Baltimore Markets Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, Md, April 6.—The live poultry market holds steady to firm on all lines with old hens show- ing an increase of 3 cents a pound and values on all large, fat poultry well maintained. In young chickens demand is best for smooth, fat broilers, 2 to 2!3 pounds, which are bringing top prices of 24 and 25 cents a pound, with heavier fowl selling mostly 23 and 24, but all stock under 2 pounds is hard to place at 12 to 14. Capons are in light receipt and move out readily at 25 to 27 for birds weighing 5 pounds and over, while old roosters are a shade higher at 12 to 15. Demand for young ducks continues good and under light receipts the market is steady at 16 to 20, with white varieties bringing top prices, but stock under 4!; pounds meets slow sale at 11 and 12. Guinea fowl "and pigeons at 25 to 50 each for the former and 20 a pair for the latter. Packers in Egg Market.
