March 22—In the early trading today the bond market | showed & willingness to hold the gains which came with yesterday's last-hour | rally, but no marked inclination to | extend the movement. | Some of the utility liens which were | bid up buoyantly fell back a bit under the weight of profit taking. Rail is- sues had a somewhat mixed tone with changes narrow. Indusmnls{ were steady. A new collapse in the belga turned interest toward the foreign sector, but Belgian issues were not immediately affected by the developments in the currency. This section of the market continued to reflect nervousness, how- ever. German and Italian obligations again showed weakness. French is- sues showed divergent trends. The United States Governments' list | accounted for only a scattering of | dealings in the forenoon and prices | showed unimportant changes. A few of the Treasuries rose 3-32 to 5-32 of 2 point. and Federal Farm Mortgage 3s were slightly easier. There were small gains in the loans | of Erie. International Telephone, Mis- | souri Pacific, National Dairy Products, | Texas Corp. and Youngstown Sheet | & Tube. Columbia Gas & Electric bonds were a trifle reactionary, but | those of Consolidated Gas edged up | a little more in response to a more optimistic feeling with regard to the | company's differences with the New | York City authorities and the Federal l Sovernment. NEW YORK, March 22—A slack- ening in trade velocity this week was | noted in the weekly business review issued today by Dun & Bradstreet. The reaction was attributed to ad- verse weather conditions, some reces- sion in the rate of general industrial activity, weakness in commodity quo- tations and furtber postponement of decisions on political matters affect- ing business. “With few exceptions, however, the retardation was not pronounced,” the report said, and was more in the do- | UC] ¢isht broken and seven unbroken cars on | New York Pennsylvania. truck | 100 pound | aryl bushel hampers.
