BERRY, WILSON AIDE, DIES Former Commander of Yacht Mayflower Expires in Brook- lyn Naval Hospital. Capt. Robert Lawrence Berry, re- tired, former naval aide to President ‘Woodrow Wilson and in command of the presidential yacht Mayflower from 1914 to 1917, died today at the Naval Hospital, Brooklyn, N. Y. The Navy Department which an- nounced his death said he is survived by his sister, Mrs. W. C. Hill of Short Hills, N. J.| Funeral services are to be held at Bernardsville, N. J,, Thurs- day afternoon. A native of Newport, Ky., where he was born August 5, 1880, Capt. Berry retired from active duty in 1926 at his own request, following 30 years' serv- ice. He was appointed to the Naval Academy from Kentucky in 1896. After his service with President Wil- son he went to Bath, Me., in connection with the fitting out of the new destroy- er U. S. S. Manley and commanded | that vessel after commissioning. He headed the naval recruiting station at Newark, N. J,, September, 1919, to De- cember, 1921; served as executive offi ’ cer of the U. S. 8. New York Febru ary to September, 1922, and was thes transferred to command the U. S. | Procyon. He was in charge of the na- val recruiting bureau at New York from October, 1923, until his retire- ment.
