P.Warmuth, Noted Surgeon, May Die of Infection. By the Assoclated Press. PHILADELPHIA, October 13.—Al- though the condition of Dr. M. P. Warmuth, 60, nationally known can- cer research specialist, took a slight turn for the better yesterday, physicians till feared he might become a martyr to an operation by which he probably saved the life of a youth arrested as a petty thief. The operation consisted of amputa- ting the left foot of James Macanally, 19, three weeks ago. Gangrene had set in where the boy was shot in the ankle Septemeber 22, by policemen he tried to elude. During the operation Dr. Warmuth pricked a finger. Antitoxin was ad- ministered, but the infection set in and the surgeon's condition rapidly be- ame so grave his life was feared for. Dr. Warmuth has been conducting cancer serum experiments which doc- tors describe as promising much to the profession. He has been chief physician at Eastern Penltentiary for years and is associated with two local hospitals. Scorns Revived Styles.
