COTTON IS HIGHER ON BETTER BUYING | Week Eld Covering Operations Also Contribute to Stronger Tone in Market. BY CECIL M. JONES. (Written for the Associated Press.) ATLANTA, Ga, August 22.—The First National Bank of Atlanta and affiliated institutions announced today that, effective immediately, loans of 80 per cent of the market value of the cotton crop will be made to cotton fermers of the Southeastern States, John K. Ottley, president of the — 14| Atianta bank, which, with its affiliated institetions, has resources exceeding $150,000,000, said the loans could be obtained through any bank in the States of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina and South Carolina, Loans will run from four to six months and those made by the Atlanta + “hnmn will be at 5 per cent interest Mr. Ottley said the present situa- tion confronting the cotton farmer was unsatisfactery and that, although con- siructive _sbiggestions ad been made for the possible betterment of condi- tions, the pank believed the time had come for immediate action to prevent dumping of eotton on the market and possibly further, depressing prices. While holding cotton off the market, the loans also will enable the farmer 1o releass & good portion of the market value of the crop to local banks and merchants, Mr. Ottley said. “This bank has been financing cot ton since 1865 and does not pr to change its policy now.” Mr. Otfle announcement said. “The plan we are 0" aisn operings for ho nre willing 4o T T iy (T LT et o “ n own handwritine Y Vornlard s Louis & Nash un! 4+ Manati Sug s f TH8'42.., Market St Ry 7s A 40 10415 105 - - L 128 128% g 108% 109 49 L1 Rile; and £ WOE or Reliablr. o lgble.
