NYW YORK, August 22-—Financial wrkets ended the week in a highly | Wncertain frame of mind today. ‘Trading in stocks came close to & r‘ndllfll and prices worked irregularly lower, although there was some stiffen- ing teward the close, and losses in propiinent issues were largely frac- tional. The bond market was dull, and there was some let-up in the recent | ‘pressure against the rzil obligations. Indiontions that the MacDonald gov- ‘ernment was reaching a crisis in Eng- land, in its efforts to effect an economy program, was an unsettling influence, and there was talk in brokerage circles of a little selling of stocks for foreign _account, Steel Output. Reports from the Youngstown area | indicated that steel output would be well maintained around recent levels | next week, and might show a little up- | turn. A fresh flurry of gossip over the prospect of a 10 to 15 per cent in cut in steel wages, however, has been inter- preted in some quarters as indicating that executives look for omly a mild seasonal upturn in the Autumn. Special Dispatch to The Star. COLLEGE PARK, Md., August 22.— ‘With the slogan, “Peach Time in Mary- 1:nd." a campaign is being made to enccurage the use of Maryland peaches. In view of the large crop of that fruit this year, not only in this State but also in practically all peach- growing sections of the country, it is stated by those in close touch with the situation that psaches are unusually plentiful and reasonable in price.
