ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 25.—The marriage of Miss Roberta Howard Schneider, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Schneider, to Mr. E. Wiley Stearns, son of Mrs. E. H. Stearns of Rixeyville, Va., took place yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the home of the bride's parents on North View Ter- ‘AN ARMY THE SUNDAY STAR, WASHI HOSTESS face. Only the two families and a few intimate friends witnessed the ceremony and stayed for the informal reception afterward. Rev. Percy Foster Hall, rec- tor of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, of- ficlated. The bride was given in mar- riage by her father and wore an after- noon frock of beige-lace with hat to match and carried a cluster of orchids and valley lilies. Miss Elizabeth ter Schneider, sister of the bride, was the only attendant and wore a frock of blus lace and & blue hat. She carried a cluster of Spring flowers. Mr. Charles Strahorn of Annapolis was best man for Mr. St . Mr. and Mrs. Stearns left later in the evening for a northern bridal trip and on their return will live in the Brawner Apartment at 906 Prince street. Mr, and Mrs. John Taylor Lewis, jr.,, of Richmond, brother-in-law and sister of the bride, and their two young daughters were here for the wed ding. Mrs. Chester G. Pierce and Miss Mar- garet Robinson entertained at bridge followed by tea Saturday afternoon, April 18, in honor of Miss Sthneider in the home of Mrs. Pierce on Duke street. Mrs. Howard W. Smith and Miss Elizaheth Schneider were at the tea tabl> and were assisted by Mrs. Edwin Hammon Pierce, Miss Charlotte Kem- per, Miss Inez Moore and Miss Susan Smoot Thomson. Mrs. Howard Worth Smith enter- tained at a bridge luncheon Friday in honor of Miss Schneider. Col. and Mrs. Charles B. Moore left last week by motor to visit the latter's parents, Representative and Mrs. An- drew Jackson Montague, in Richmond, and will continue their trip to Charles- ton, 8. C., and New Orleans. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney H. Moyer of Albemarle County announce the mar- riage of their daughter, Nannie, to Mr. John L. Kidd, son of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Kidd of Alexandria, on Wed- nesday, April 15, in the Southern Methodist Church with Rev. D. L. Snyder officiating. Mme. de Lima y Silva is an en- thusiast in sports, though she takes no active part. She follows polo, the fa- vorite game of the Ambassador, with She has a deep appreciation for the arts, but has developed no talent of her own. One of three handsome and charming daughters of the Mexican diplomat, Mme. de Lima y Silva finds a large cir- cle of friends awaiting her. Her sister, Mme. Nano, wife of the counselor of the Rumanian legation, is one of the most popular hostesses in the diplomatic corps and is here for the second time, M. Nano having served in the Rumanian foreign office for several years before returning here. Mme, de Lima y Silva slightly resembles Mme. Nano and has the same grace of manner and poise. Thelr sister, Baroness de Erlanger, who is the wife of a British baron, visited the counselor and Mme. Nano last Win- ter, and, like her sisters, is cultured and delightful. Mme. da Gama, the last hostess to preside over the Brazilian embassy, has many friends in Washington, made dur- ing the years that the late Mr. da Gama was at this post and which she has kept and renewed during her fre- quent visits here. Mme. da Gama re- turns to her former New York home from London every year or two, and al- ways spends & short time in Washington while in this country.
