HEN Ford Bond, National| Broadcasting Co. announcer, was a schoolboy he carried his books and report card home one June a boy so- prano and returned that fall a rich tenor. His teachers predicted a great musical career for him. Since Bond was 13 years old he has earned his own way as & musician. And he wasn't forced to, either. His father is president of a large wholesale and retail goods firm in Fouisvitte, Xy. Although Bond began the study of piano at the age of 5 and vocal work with a boys' choir at %, his par- ents wanted him 3 be a doctor. As a matter of course | he went away to medical college in Chicago. But he didn’t take to med- ical work as he should, and instead spent most of his time on music. * At 19 he was the direc- tor of choruses and giee clubs. Music even carried Bond into the in- dustrial world when he found himself in the position of musical representative for a Southern manufacturing company. At 22 he went to Alexandria, La., and there directed the community chorus and church choir. Then radio “got him.” He joined the staff of WHAS in Louisville as an announcer. Later he became director, first of the broadcast- ing studios, then of music, and wlti-| matély of general programs. Then he looked for new worlds to conquer. In January, 1930, Bond went to New York and began all over again as an announcer, this time for the N. B.
