A Navy Selection Board will be con- vened in May to pick some 43 lieuten- grade of commander, to carry out the terms of the Britten act, passed on March 3. The Navy Department an- nounced yesterda 230 lieutenants will be ordered for ex- amination early in June to insure the filling of the allowance of lleutenant commanders, “whose percentage of the total allowed officer strength has been slightly raised under the terms of the new personnel act.” Announcing that the new Ilgislation provides for no increase in the total number of officers allowed the Navy, the department said that it is “de- signed for placing into effect an orderly system of jpromotion of commissioned officers in the Navy by removing ir- regularities of prumounn which resulted from the influx of a large mxmber of officers during the World War.” The department advised its far-flung per- sonnel yesterday in a radio message of the program to be followed under the Britten act.
