Decided increases in the number of persons requiring free and part-pay care from hospitals and public health nursing organizations were largely re- sponsible for the increased amount asked by these organizations from the Community Chest of 1931, according to the report of the Budget Commit- tee's subcommittee on health agencies. ‘There are 17 o tions in the Chest which deal tly with health problems, the report shows, and their estimated expenses for 1931, due to un- employment and depression, are $2,577,« 020.81, of which the Chest will con- tribute 18 per t, or $470,242.76. This is more than $50,000 over the amount contributed in 1930. Georgetown Hospital Reports. ‘The report from Georgetown Uni- versity Hospital, a typical organization, shows that during 1930 6,977 days of free care were given. In addition to patients applied for treatment during 1930. A total of 8,856 visits were made by the staff of the dispensary in con- tacting those persons in need of medi- cal supervision and medical social service in their homes. They have had close contacts with 604 familles, hos- pital care being arranged for 282 of these persons in Georgetown Hospital and hospital care for 38 persons ar- ranged in other hospitals. Georgetown University Hospital has had active co- orenwm with 26 other social agen- cles during the year 1930. ‘The annual report for 1930 from f.hlldren'l Hn‘plh}, ’whlc:lm carried a rge percentage of free Tt-pay care, shows that 40,603 hospital days care were provided for 5,14’ tients during the year. These included 1,948 visits, involving cases of children under 1 year of age. In order to provide the gzper diet for the care of children, Child Welfare Society holds food demonstrations. During the year 141 such demonstrations were given, with & total attendance of 2,335 persons, Visiting Nurses Aid 15,015. ‘The report of the Instructive Visit Nurse Society, another Chest tion, shows that the nurses rendered service to 15,015 patients last year, paying a total of 120,580 visits, an increase of 1,178 patients and 5,070 visits over the previous year.
