AKERSON HONORED BY NEWSPAPER MEN Secretary to Hoover Guest at Dinner—Presented With Silver Set. George Akerson, who regently ten- dered his resignation as secretary to President Hoover, to accept an execu- tive position with the sound pictures industry in New York, was guest at a dinner given in his hono the Willard Hotel last night. There were about one hundred per- sons present, all of them newspaper men who had been associated with Mr. Akerson during the days when he him- self was a Washington correspondent and since his association with Mr. Hoover. During the course of the din- ner there were reminders of these Ppleasant associations as well as expres- sions of regret at his near departure from Washington. The dinner was presided over by J. Russell Young of The Star. He assured Mr. Akerson of the appreciation of the correspondents of his assistance and co-operation while he served Mr. Hoover as secretary. As a testimonial of the affection of the men in this gathering & silver set appropriately inscribed was presented to Mr. Akerson. The presen- tation address, which was in the form of an eulogy was delivered by J. Fred Essary, Washington correspondent of the Baltimore Sun. Mr. Akerson in response expressed his appreciation. He paid a high tribute to the character and principles of the newspaper men of Washington and said his association with them would always be a happy recollection.
