Will Aid Welfare Work. Ever gracious in aiding welfare work, the President’s wife already has at- tended a Walter Reed Hospital sale of Christmas gifts made by disabled sol- diers. Her pre-Christmas appearances will include the Salvation Army Christ- mas party and the Central Union Mis- sion Christmas tree, both providing well filled hampers and gift bundles for poor families. After she has watched her husband in the annual presidential role of light- ing Washington's outdoor community Christmas tree Mrs. Hoover will be free to serve as hostess at her own two Christmas parties. The Christmas eve arty will be for “the White House amily’—the President’s own house- bold, his secretaries, physician aides, with their sons and daughters. The invitation is dispatched to the youngest child of each family, asked to come and bring his brothers, sisters and parents along with him. The Christmas night party is for “the | official family"—the President and his | cabinet members with their immediate households. Mrs. Alice Garth Dies. HUNTSVILLE, Ala., December 19 (P). —Mrs. Alice Garth, 95, widow of the late Horace E. Garth, retired president of the Mechanics & Metals Bank of New York, die¢ yesterday at the home of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Winston F. Garth of Piedmont, Ala. The body will be sent to Memphis, Tenn., for burial. Six-Story Fall Fatal. SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, December 19 (#)—John C.
