By the Assoclated Press. WEEHAWKEN, N. J, December 19— A Nation-wide movement to perpetu~ ate the memory of Alexander Hamfl- ton, shot to death by Asron Burr en & dueling field here, has been launched. On the top of the Palisades overlook- ing the dueling ground the Home Owners’ Association would bulld » monument. Weehawken d- ready have spent nearly ,000 converting the proposed site of fi- ’monh;mem into the Hamilton Memorial Citizens from all parts of the coun- try have been invited to join the Alex- ander Hamilton Memorial Assoclation organized here with Edward as president. February 1 has been fix 8s the last date for the enroliment of charter members. January 11 Birthday Anniversary. By-laws adopted at the organizatirn meeting set January 11, the birthday anniversary of Hamiiton, as the date of the annual meeting. Plans of the association eall for the erection of the monument on the Plaza about 120 feet above the narrow strip along the Jersey water front where so many fought it out in the {lm 25 years of the nineteenth cen- ury. Of course, the most famous duel at this historic spot, almost directly posite Thirtieth street in New Y was that of Burr and Hamilton om July 11, 1804. This was Burr's secopd duel in Weehawken. He had fought with James Church, Hamilton's broth- er-in-law, on September 2, 1799. On November 3, 1801, Hamilten's eldest son, Phillip Hamilton, was shot and killed at the Weehawken dmlh\. ground by George L. Gacker, & York lawyer. On the day hdan Gacker fought a duel at the umplwl with Samuel Price, & companion ef o' | Phillip Hamilton's, so it would appear the spot was one of evil omen to the Hamilton family.
