RECTOR WHO WED CATHOLIC VICTOR Admonition of Bishop Only Penalty for Kentuckian Defending Own Case. By the Associated Press. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 25.—Victor in & fight he waged virtually unaided. Rev. Julius Arnold Velasco, rector of 8t. John's Episcopal Church at Dayton, Ky., today faced only an admonition by his bishop for his marriage to a Catholic and its aftermath. ‘The 31-year-old minister, whose ro- mance led up to a two-day battle before an ecclesiastical court here to retain his church orders, conferred last year only a few months before he married Cather- ine Rogers of Baltimore, was acquitted last night of the major accusations filed against him by a diocese committee. ‘Conducting his own defense, the rec- tor forced from prosecution witnesses the admission that he violated no church law. He won a verdict from the court of fellow ministers that cleared him of charges that he violated an agreement to resign if he married a Catholic, and that he denied his bishop, Right Rev. H. P. Almon_ Abbott, the right to enter his parish after the breach between them. Opposing him were two veteran attorneys. In the Christ Church Cathedral Par- ish House where the hearing was held the petite blonde woman in the case sat unsmiling the two days, by special per- mission of the court. The bishop, who, it was testified, brought Mr. Velasco to his diocese last year from Maryland, where the young rector then was a dea- con, did not attend.
