Ryan, jr., one of the heirs of Thomas Fortune Ryan and son of Allan A. Ryan, who cornered Stutz Motor in 1920 and was expelled from the Stock Exchange, has purchased & seat for $425,000 and will become a member if elected. Mr. Ryan, jr, has acquired the seat of Charles A. Frank, the Stock Exchange disclosed yesterday. It is Mr. Ryan's intention to become a floor broker, the exchange announce- ment says. He entered Wall Street in 1924 to regain the vast fortune his father had built up during the war and subsequently lost when Thomas Fortune | Ryan, tobacco and public utllities op- erator, refused to come to his rescue. When Thomas Fortune Ryan died in| 1928 he bequeathed his son only a pair | of shirt studs, while Allan, jr., shared | in the $500,000,000 estate with the widow and other relatives. | Bought Curb Seat at 21. ‘When the younger Mr. Ryan entered ‘Wall Street in 1924 he was just out of Yale and was 21 years old. He started in by purchasing a membership on the New York Curb Exchange, and was associated with Rockwell, Carpenter & Cutler. Friends of Mr. Ryan said then that he intended to be instrumental in re-establishing his father in Wall Street. Before he became a member of the Curb Mr. Ryan served an apprentice- ship of three months as a stock clerk, runner, margin clerk and order clerk. Late in 1928, after serving as a Curb broker, he became a partner in the in- vestment firm of Noah MacDowell & Co. Farly last year he married Miss Janet Newbold, daughter of Mr. and l\D(rlc Fleming Newbold of Washington, Prior to the stock market battle in | which Stutz Motor skyrocketed and was ruled off the Stock Exchange, Allen A. Ryan, sr, had controlled the company. Although’ Mr. Ryan's generalship won | against the bears who sold the stock short in wholesale quantities, he was borne under by banking obligations he had incurred during the fluctuations of Stuta. Dunn, attorney for the plaintiffs, an- nounced Wednesday that names of six plaintiffs and six defendants have been withdrawn in the $10,000 damage suit filed against members of the metropoli- tan society set recently by persons ‘whose claims for services in connection with a society circus were unpaid.
