NEW YORK, April 4—That national | banks are carrying more United States Government securities than necessary in their secondary reserve accounts and not enough general list bonds, thereby | reducing their earning power, is stated by Dr. Paul M. Amxu. economist of Ames, Emerich Present of low interest raws and rising bond prices will undoubted! raule in broad revisions in banks’ holdings, it is said. At present levels even the highest grade and most active bonds yield more than the call money market, which ac- counts in a large measure for the re- cent active bond market, the review says. While total security holdings of na- tional banks decreased almost $500,000,- 000 from June 30, 1928, to June 29, 1928 practically none of this decrease place in Government securitiec. Nn- tional banks‘ in general, need not carry more about one-fourth of their ueondlry reserves as United States Government ucurmu. Such a propor- tion promotes a very liquid condition among the banks cchdo DAIRY MARKET.
