C, March 14—The textile industry is “so large that import- ant_changes move slowly,” asserted W. M. McLaurine, secretary of the Ameri- can cotton manufacturers’ Association here last night in an address at the ban- 1!:! meeting of committee D-13 of the erican Society of Testing Materials. “At the present time most funda- mental and constructive ideas are si- lently and surely asserting themselves and finding expression in many of the | mills,” he said. By the Assoclated Press. CHICAGO, March 14.—The novel | procedure of carrying to court a dispute concerning bootlegging operations was enacted in Judge Harry Tuttle's court Wednesday. The judge characterized the proceeding as “amazing,” and referred the matter to the United States district attorney for investigation. The procedure involved the story of Joseph Mutinsky, who sued Louis A. Ruda and Joseph Psota for return of $3,000, he sald he gave them for pre- war whisky which was to be brought from a Government warehouse in De- troit to be sold here at prices that would double his investment in 10 days. He contended that Psota represented him- self as a Government official. Defense counsel argued that his clients never claimed to have Government connec- tions and that recovery could not be iuad]e because the transaction ‘was il- egal. The jury agreed with Mutinsky, and | ordered his $3,000 returned. .. Lead Mines Cut Scale. WALLACE, Idaho, March 14 (P)—A wage reduction of 50 cents a day, effec- tive March 16, was announced here by several of the largest producing sil- ver-lead-zinc mines of the Coeur d’Alene district.
