CREAGER SEESG.0.. VIGTORIES IN TEXAS Coalition of Bolters to Down| Democrats in State Races, He Tells Hoover. A rosy picture of the Republican pros- pects in Texas was given to President Hoover yesterday by Col. R. B. Creager Republican national committeeman from | that State. According to Col. Creager, the Re- publican party will for the first time since reconstruction days elect one of its own party as Governor of Texas in the next elections. He. stated that the rty has lost pone of the ground it gained during the 1£23 campaign, when Mr. Hoover pul the Lone Star State in the Republican column Yor the first time since recon- struction dmys, and because of the strong likelihood of the solid support of the so-called Hoover Democrats in that State Col. Creager is satisfied that the Democrats will again go down in defeat Col. Creager pointed out that the Republican - Hoover - Democratic coali- tion will be strengthened by the nomi- nation of former Gov. James A, Fergu- son for governor as one of the candi- dates on the Democratic ticket. In ad- dition, he said, the action of the Demo- eratic State committee in refusing o teke back into the party. those who abandoned it in 1928 to vote for Mr | Hoover has greatly enhanced the Re- | publican chances in the next election. Col Creager expressed the opinion that the coalition nominee for governor will be selected from the ranks of the so-called Hoover Democrats. He sai¢ also that a full State ticket will be put | in the field by the State coalition and he is hopeful of a complete victory down the line, which will include, be- | sides, probably two or three congres- | sional districts. Col. Creager’s real purpose in calling on the President, however, was to straighten out some matters of Federal patronage for Texas. There are several | marshals and other Government posts to be filled and he hopes to have some definite understanding before returning to Texas within the next few days.
