HYATTSVILLE FIRE BAND ORGANIZED Mayor of Town Elected Presi- dent of Group—Member- ship Open to All. Epecial Dispatch to The Star. HYATTSVILLE, Md., February %.— Organization of the Hyattsville Fire De- partment Band was effected at a meet- ing attended by approximately 50 from Hyattsville, Riverdale, Cottage City and Lanham Wednesday night in fire de- partment headquarters in the municipal building. Though the band bears the name of the fire department, member- ship is open to all. There will be no cost to the members for instruments or in- struction, the idea being to have the business interests of the town finance the band. Applicants for membership _should communicate with J. Wells Fainter, secretary, at the fire department, Hy- attsville 194, or at his home, Hyattsville 1042. Other members are sought to build up a large band. These officers were elected to serve until next January: Dr. Hilleary T. Willis, mayor of Hy- attsville, president; Edwin B. Bolte, vice president; J. Wells Fainter, secretary; E. Murray Gover, treasurer, and Edwin B. Bolte, musical director. Five trus- tees also were chosen, including E. Mur- ray Gover, Chief Noble F. Rushe of the Hyattsville Fire Department, J. Wells Fainter, W. D. Porter and Francis C. Little. Bolte, Fainter and Rushe took the oath of office. A constitution and by-lays were adopted. ells Fainter was appointed in harge of publicity and an enrollment mittee comprising Fainter, Chief e, Clifford Proctor, T. C. Smith George Rheinbold was named. Each ber, however, was urged to consider umself a member of the enrollment committee and secure new members. Meetings will be held every Thursday night, starting next week, in fire de- partment headquarters here until fur- 1her notice. Next Thursday night it is planned to swear in the other officers and to assign instruments. However, it is not expected that the instruments will arrive until next month.
