By the Associated Press. | CHICAGO, January 4.—Mayor Wil- liam Hale Thompson was ill and unable to recetve Pascual Ortiz Rubio when the Mexican President-elect made the | rounds of Chicago officialdom today as | part of his good will tour of the United States, but that didn't deter the future chieftain of this country’s Southern neighbor from having, as he put it, “a thoroughly enjoyable time.” In the absence of Mayor Thompson, Corporation Counsel Samuel Ettelson | made an extemporaneous address O{i welcome in behalf of this city. Lauds Mexicans in Chicago. Mr. Ettelson éxplained that Chicago was & “pot-pouring” of all nations, and included some 10,000 Mexicans, many of whom still are subjects of their native land. These people of Mexico, Ettelson | asserted, contributed to “Chicago’s greatness” along with former residents | of many other countries. The President-elect spent the major | part of the afternoon in sight-seeing. ‘The places he visited, after luncheon at the Union League Club, included Mayor ‘Thompson’s pumping station and the Mexican colony, where he made a brief address.
