MAY 19. 1929—PART 3. THE SUNDAY STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C, THREE JOIN JONIOR | DPLOMATICORCLE. /5 Daughters, 15 and 13, and ! son, 11, of Siamese Minis- | § ter Arrive in Capital. BY GRETCHEN SMITH. The junior set of the diplomatic corps has received three interesting new members in the young daughters and son of the Siamese Minister, Prince Amoradat Kridakara, who arrived in Washington a few days ago. The Misses | ; Pairoh and Pluen Chitra, aged 15 and and Master Bongs Amara, 11 years , are bright, happy children, vitally erested in all the sports and pleas- es which attract young people of their age, and with the pleasing and cordial manners which seem to be inherent to | all people of the Oriental races. | Master Bongs is a real boy, fond of | golf, roller skating and riding, and it | s with considerable heartache, that eft behind in his Bangkok home pet Slamese ponies. Both he and ters are expert swimmers and are looking forward with pleas- to their visit this Summer to the Massachusetts coast, where Prince Amardat will spend the Summer with his family at Gloucester. | Miss Pairoh, & shy little slip of a| girl, is the eldest of the three. She was born in Berlin and tells you that her vounger sister and brother were born in Paris, but this is the first visit away| fiom her native land that she rememe bers. On the journey from Bangkok. the family stopped in Paris for about three weeks and evidences of the visit to the French capital were apparent in the smart little blue frocks worn by Miss Pairoh and her sister. | Begin Study of English. | The two younger children speak no English, but have already begun a study of the language. Miss Pairoh states that she understands English, but does not speak it, but after the first few moments of shyness, she was able to answer questions very well in English. Just as “the colonel’s lady and Judy O'Grady are sisters under the skin,” it n apparent that the likes and interests of the little Siamese girl are the same as those of every normal girl of 15. Miss Pairoh has played golf at her home in Bangkok, bui she says | that she has played more of the Eng- lish game, badminton, a game rapidly gaining in popularity in Washington, than any other sport. She hopes to take up tennis while in this country. She likes music and tells you with sparkling eyes that she enjoyed the American jazz music and the dancing which she heard and saw while in Paris. | Miss Pairoh is an expert needle | woman and learned at her school in Siam to make dresses and embroider them in the beautiful work done by the | women of her country. She also is a, musician, playing the native Siamese stringed instrument, quite unlike any known in this country. Underneath the poise and manner of the diplomat's daughter, obivious the minute one meets the young lady, is just the heart of a 15-year-old girl, ex- periencing the first pangs of homesick- ness. Misses Home in Bangkok. “Do you miss your home in Bangkok. she was asked. The brown eyes sad- dened. “Yes, I do—but,” the training of the diplomat's daughter now came to the fore, “I am sure I am going to like Washington much. I like it very much alread; Prince Amoradat was also accom- panied to this country by three young boys between the ages of 12 and 1 zent by the government as students to || this country. One of the boys is at the legation; one has ne to school in Boston, d the third is attending school in Maryland. No definite plans have been made as || ; yet as to what school will be selected | for the prince's children, but Miss | Pairoh stated that upon her return | from Gloucester next September, she | expects to attend one of the private |; schools in the city. Ik The three children of the former Slamese Minister, Plya Vijitavongs, are | still in the United States. His oldest son is now & cadet at West Point; a son, 16, is a student at the Swavely School, Virginia, d a 15-year-old daughter, Miss Viamala Sudasna, is at present at- tending the Warrenton Country School for Girls, but will sail for France in June to join her father in Paris, where he has been sent as envoy from country.
