BYRD PARTY TALKS WITH GREENLAND Signals Strong and Clear as Radio Goes Half-way Around World. BY RUSSELL OWE By Radio to The Star and New York Times. LITTLE AMERICA, Antarctic, May 7.—One end of the world talked with the other last night when our radio station communicated with the Univer- =ity of Michigan meteorological station at Mount Evans. Greenland The sun has disappeared here and it is just becoming warm there and the conversation between the two operators made possible the remarkable contrast offered by the shifting seasons. There have been one or two other occasions on_which contact has been made with Greenland, which is about | 12,000 miles distant, but never before | have the signals been so clear and loud | strong. The sun had been up in the | North for an hour at that time “Why don't you go out and sun_bath?” asked Petersen. “It isn't that warm vet, but the snow is melting,” answered Hansen. Larry Gould, wWho is a professor of | geology at the University of Michigan, | then sent some messages to Ann Arbor. | Mich., through the Greenland station, | as it was easier to talk to Greenland | than to Michigan.
