English of Emory said “Qua” was the mysterious work to which Har- ris referred in a letter to William Dean Howells in 1900. No other reference to the novel had been found in Harris' letters or manu- scripts until Prof. English ran upon it 29 years after it was penned in a first draft, and 21 years afler the death of the author. The Harris family placed all of the Georgia story teller’s manu- scripts in the hands of Emory two years ago, and Prof. English has been classi- fying and examining them since. The story was written in ink on plain paper in the flowing Harris hand. There are 160-odd pages in seven chapters, totaling 35,000 words. The story deals with the skirmishing and bush-whacking between Whigs and Tories in Georgla. FORFEITS COLLATERAL. Man Fails to Appear to Face Stat- utory Charge. Willlam D.
