Washington Society Finds Important Events Listed ToPrecede Ash Wednesday Return of President and Mrs. Coolidge to White House Inaugurates Late Season Schedule of Activities. ) BY SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. HE return of the President and Mrs. Coolidge to the White House yesterday put the whole social world in tune again and from now until Ash Wednesday, February 13, the days and nights will be filled with interesting social affairs, and even through the days of sackcloth and ashes there will be dining and visiting, lectures, musicales, and there will be card parties in sufficient number to satisfy even the most strenuous. A WEEK of many engagements awaits the Chief Executive and Mrs. Coolidge—for him engagements of an official nature and for the First Lady events more social. Tomorrow at noon she will be the guest of honor at the annual breakfast of the Congressional Club, han which there is never anything more interesting on Washington’s social program. Mrs. Peter Goelet Gerry, president of the club, will preside and all of the members and their guests will raise the com- pany to the number of several hundred. “The breakfast will be given at the Willard, and though the club election takes place within a few days, politics will not enter into the program. TUESDAY night the President and Mrs. Coolidge will be guests at dinner of the Secretary of Agriculture and Mrs. Jardine and an affair that awaits them later in the season will be a dinner February 26, with the Speaker and Mrs. Longworth as hosts. Mr. and Mrs. Coolidge show a special liking for officials, and, as a farewell compli- ment to the women of the Senate, Mrs. Coolidge will give a tea Friday afternoon. She has, as consistently as possible, attended the Senate Ladies’ Lunch Club, Tuesday of each week during the season, and this will not be the first occasion on which she has entertained the members at the White House. \ 5 LAST week’s social program leaves a glow across the way, which will Jong linger in the minds of Washingtonians. The beautifully pointed dinner given at the Willard Tuesday night for the Presi- <dent and Mrs. Coolidge, with the Secretary of the Interior, Mr. Roy O. West, as host and his daughter, Mrs. LeGrand Cannon, as hostess, was one of the largest cabinet dinners of the season. The presi- dential suite, where Mr. and-Mrs. Coolidge have been both hosts and guests many times over, was used, and like a forerunner of Spring was the generous use of tulips, sweet peas, jonquils and pink roses which filled the eight low bowls* placed %t *intervals on the table, while fern and blossoms were scattered on the cloth. THE Congressional Club, always in the foreground, held one of its notable receptions of the season, entertaining Thursday night with a reception for the Vice President and Mrs. Dawes. It will stand | out in the history of the club as being more nearly a stag party than any affair ever held there, man guests quite outnumbering fhe women. It was a charming event. **QOMETHING different” has been achieved by the Colonial Dames of America in the tableaux that have been arranged for pres- entation at the Carlton Hotel, Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock and again in the evening at 10 o’clock. The costumes for the event have been loaned from the rare native attire belonging in the personal wardrobes of important diplomatio families here, 2 courtesy that is much appreciated by the committee arranging this benefit for Wythe House in Williamsburg, Va. This is one of the first places of historic interest in that city to have been preserved from destruction by the patriotic group of women now interested in this benefit of Wednesday. Junior Hadassah Plans Seyenth Annual Dance The Junior Hadassah will give its seventh annual dance Thursday eve- ning, February 21, in the Willard Ho- tel, when a silver loving cup will be presented to the winner of the essay contest, “What Hadassah Means to Me.” The contest is open to all mem- bers of the organization. Miss Lillian Robbin is chairman of the ball and presided at a meeting of the committee last week, when Miss Sophye Baynard, secretary-treasurer of tbe program committee, made a report en tge Dprogress of the arrangements. Party Given in Honor Of Miss Weinbergerl A farewell party was held at the home of Miss Marguerite England in honor of Miss Dorothy Weinberger, who will make New York her future home.
