TRHISTONALED | N HAROY PROBE Californiaris to Seek Man’s Story of Mrs. McPherson’s Kidnaping Case. By the Associated Press. LOS ANGELES, February 2.—An at- tempt to draw from Kenneth G. Or- miston, former radio operator at An. gelus Temple, his version of the Aimee Semple McPherson disappearance case and the charges growing out of it will be made by the legislative committee investigating the evangelist's “love of- fering” of $2,500 to Judge Carlos S. Hardy of the Los Angeles Criminal Ormiston, who was alleged to have been with Mrs. McPherson at Carmel, Calif,, during the time she said she was held by kidnapers on the Mexican desert, was named in a subpoena order issued yesterday. Operator Long Secluded. The radio man disappeared during the investigation, which led to the filing of the conspiracy charge against the evangelist, and was mot located until some time after the case had been dropped. Found in New York, he re- turned to Los Angeles voluntarialy in company with Los Angeles County in- vestigators, but the case was never of- . ficially reopened. He has been living here since. Former District Attorney Asa Keyes, who brought the charges against the evangelist and who eventually dismissed the case on the grounds of lack of evi- dence, appeared in response to a sub- poena before the investigating commit- tee Jast night. He denied that Judge Hardy ever had approached him regarding the McPher- son case. The committee is seeking to determine if Judge Hardy committed an impeachable offense in accepting the $2,500. Denies Making Advance Statement. Keys, who at present is on trial with two co-defendants on charges of bribery. and conspiracy, also denied that, prior to his appearance in court to move the dismissal of the evangelist's case he had told any one that he intended to make such a move, with the exception of Superior Judge Albert L. Stephens, before whom the motion was made, and the State’s attorney general. . Jackson Berger, Los Angeles mews- paper man, and Nick Harris also testi- fled last night. Berger, who had in- terviewed Judge Hardy last Autumn when it became ‘known that he had been the recipient of the check, testi- fied that the jurist then told him it was given for advice rendered in real estate deals and other matters in con- nection with Angelus Temple. Harris told the committee he had been called into the McPherson case July 3, 1926, and later employed to ferret out information and make re- ports on rumors for Mrs. McPherson. TAKES BIBLE AS TEXT.
