Public Library 19 Years. Miss Elizabeth P. Gray, for the past 19 years supervisor of binding and curator of book collections of the Dis- trict of Columbia Public Library, died in Emergency Hospital last evening | after a short illness. She was 59 years | old. Miss Gray had made an extensive study of various processes for the mak- ; ing and preservation of books, on which | subject she was considered an author- | ity, frequently having been consulted | by libraries and individuals. She had been a member of the library staff since 1907, and had held the position she oc- | cupied at the time of her death since 1909. Miss Gray resided in the Woodward | Apartments. Miss Sarah Van Gundy, for 21 years head of the English department of the National Cathedral School for Girls, and who was known throughout the coun- try by the many graduates she had taught, died in Garfield Memorial Hos- pital yesterday. Miss Van Gundy was taken to the hospital three weeks ago to undergo an operation for acute appendicitis. Later pneumonia and other complications de- veloped. Born in Lewisburg, Pa., Octcber 9, 1862, Miss Van Gundy was the daugh- ter of the late Christian and Caroline Van Gundy. She was educated at Buck- nell University, receiving a B. L. degree there. She began her career as a teach- er at the old Lutherville Seminary, now known as Maryland College, at Luther- ville, Md. After teaching there for nine years she taught at Miss Dana’s School for Girls at Morristown, Pa. From thera she came to the National Cathe- dral School for Girls in 1907 as head of the English department. Miss Van Gundy had been active in missionary work at the school, having been instrumental in the functioning of the Bishop Satterlee Missionary Society, named after the late Bishop Satterlee, who was Bishop of Washington when she began teaching at the school. She also had been active in the Near East Relief organization and fostered the first “Golden Raule Dinner” which was held at the school. Later the “‘Golden Rule Dinner” became a regular affair of the Near East Relief. She is survived by two brothers, Hus- tin Van Gundy, a professor at Man- mouth College, Manmouth, Ill, and Morris Van Gundy of Houston, Tex., and two sisters, Mrs. A. A. Johnson of Gloucester, Va., and Miss Anna Van Gundy of Lewisburg, Pa. Funeral services will be conducted in Bethlehem Chapel of the Washington Cathedral tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock. The body will be taken to Lew- isburg, Pa., for burial.
