FINANCIAL/S CONVERTIBLE BOND ISSUES ARE LOWER Mixed Tendency Displayed in Market—Ail Securities Are Firm. BY CHARLES F. SPEARE. #pecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, November 14 —It was difficult at times today to determine the trend of the bond market because of the opposing movements in several [ A active groups. The convertible issues that had been featuring the speculative side of the market were for the most part lower. While there were rallies in them, they appeared to have reached the point at which profit-taking was -fl’ecung their price level. Both of the 7 per cent r convertibles wem, off a early, with Andes 7s showing g covery later and Anglo-Chilean 7s up l int. pflAmung the oil convertibles Barnsdall 6s_ displayed the most resistance and held above yesterday's closing. Simms 6s declined 3 points, White Eagle 5%s a point and Transcontinental Ofl 6: eased off half a poln! followed by a rally of about a poin The best showing s i e tive convertibles. Public Service of New Jersey 415s had an opening gain of 2% polm.s which it increased to 4 points. Brooklyn Union 5'%s rose 4 points, J. Kayser 51:s rose 3 points and Liquid Carbonic 6s advanced 3 points., Inter- national Cement 5s were up 112 points. After selling around 103!; for some time Dodge 6s advanced yesterday to 104 and this morning opened above 105. There were several weak industrial features, such as Industrial Paper 5s, National Radiator 6':s and Eastern Cuba Cane Sugar 7'2s. New Orleans Public Service 5s declined to a parity with the new issue offered today. Among the secondary grade of rails the continued advance in Denver & Rio Grande Western 5s attracted attention, as did that in New Haven convertible 6s. New York, Susquehanna & West- ern refunding 5s were up a point. The 4748 and general 5s have recently had sharp gains. Seaboard Air Line issues were steady, while Florida East Coast 5s_were at the lowest of the year. The Italian convertible issues were outstanding in the foreign market. Fiat 7s rose 6 points on moderate trans- actions. There was little change else- where in the list. Dealers in foreign bonds state that the market is a very narrow one, subject to wide movements as small oflers or bids are placed. U. Government, issues were irregular, show- ing decided strength among the short- term certificates and indecision among the longer ones. There has been some selling recently by banks. —_— CHICAGO DAIRY MARKET.
