BY CHARLES F. SPEARE. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, October 4.—Speculative interest in bonds today shifted over from the copper m|nln¥ convertibles to the oils. The leader of this group was B 6s, which had an additional advance of 4 points after yesterday's equivalent rise. Since the stock has resumed dividends there has been & broad demand for it, reflected in_turn in the convertibles. It is significant that the Barnsdall 6s without warrants have stood still while the other issue has been gaining ground rapidly. UNITED (Sales are Lib3%s... Lib1st4¥s R Argentt ere was also & stronger market in{ Bremen State 7s of duplicating their previous high price of the week, and a good demand for General Motors acceptance 68s, which are still below their call price. Public Service of New Jersey 4lps sold nearly a point lower and then advanced 12 points. A number of the junior rails showed strength, among them Chicago & East- ern_Iilinois 5s, Erle refunding 5s and Seaboard Air Line adjustments. The Seaboard All Florida 6s rose several points. Both the board market and the market outside for public utilities were described as heavy. Duquesne Light and Philadelphia Electric 4!.s lost some ground while Columbla Gas 58 were in good demand | up to 101. Attention was attracted to Florida Power & Light 6s by their de- cline to nearly 90, which compares with approximately 100 for the bonds last pring. There has been some liquida- tion in them due to the Florida storm. Announcement o‘{’ !;::fl Tr:ls&x‘;y financing is expected within a few 8. Money rates are somewhat higher than they were when the 42 per cent notes were offered a month ago, but the fact that these notes were twice over-sub- scribed suggests another issue at the same rate, although there s a slight dis- count on the last one and the March maturities are selling to yield 4.86 per cent. It is understood that the October financing will be made more attractive to the banks by a promise of a longer deposit than they secured on funds credited to them after the September allotment. These funds have been drawn down more rapidly than in pre- vious issues. . POTATO MARKET DULL. IN HEAVY BUYING Market Reflects Bullish Ac- tivity in Stocks—Many Issues Gain. BY WILLIAM F. HEFFERNAN. Special Dispatch to The Star. | NEW YORK, October 4—In an- other spectacular uprush, the Curb Market favorites were carried forward into new high ground today, in sym- pathy with pronounced strength of the leaders on the Stock Exchange. If any uneasiness was felt over the attitude of certain industrial leaders as to the safety of the present struc- ture of the speculative market, it was not reflected in the day’s operations. So far as could be determined there appeared to be no limit to the enormous buying power of the speculative public. Leaders Pushed Upward. Stocks in which technical market itions were thought to warrant a her price level were selected as the leaders and ylelds, earnings and cur- rent high prices were not taken into consideration. Gains ranged from fractions to 11 points. Among those to reach their hest were Zenith Radio, up 11 to 121; Columbia Graphophone, 4 to 98; Bendix “B,” almost 5 point and Cuneo up & e amount. Others that went to their best included Checker Cab Manufacturing, some 2 points higher; Balaban & Katz, up a point or Galesburg Coulted Disc, 3 points; Kreuger & Toll and Nichols & Shepard. At 108 Neisner Bros. reached a new peak and compared with the previous final of 101%4. The new Filene com- mon gained some: 3 points, although 1t was somewhat under its recent high, while American Cigar, feeling the ef- fect of urgent short covering, rallied from the year’s low of 125 to 135, Motor Issues Gain. Schulte Real Estate, still responding to highly favorable estimates of earn- ings, went to a new top across 42, Among high priced specialties Tubize Artificial Silk rose almost 20 points, close to 530. The motors were featured by sharp upturns in Marmon and Auburn. Utili- ties bore their share in the improve- ment with American Light & Traction up almost five points. Electric Bond & Share securtiies, selling ex-rights, changed hands around 118 and later dropped more than a point as against the previous final of 127%. The rights were selling slightly above 9. Independent oil shares continued in demand under leadership of Darby Petroleum, Lion Ofl & Refining and Barnsdall debenture warrants. The Standard group fluctuated irregularly.
