Celebrating Wedding Anniversary. BY SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. HE President and Mrs. Coolidge resumed their social and offi- | cial duties at the White House almost before their bags were unpacked after their history-making trip to Cuba. While the | President went direct to the executive offices on his arrival from the mms. . Coolidge went to her engagement book and resumed her a task of discharging her social duties as First of the Land. Friday's musicale was a truly interesting and b t event. Many of those who heard the wonderful musician and Polish statesman in his first program at the White House during the Roosevelt administration listened again to his almost super- human mastery of the ‘The President and iano. &n. Coolidge had M. Paderewski and Mme. Paderewski to luncheon with them, and the atmosphere of the event was quite different from that of his first it to the mansion. ‘That visit was made in the first Roosevelt admi: tion and musi- cales were almost unknown, so the East Room was well filled when the musician last arrived, preceded by his favorite piano stool which he always carried about with him, and he faced the most fashionable to be assembled in America. company TUISDA_Y night the President and Mrs. Coolidge will be guests of the Attorney General and Mrs. nt at dinner, and Thursday night they will resume their interrupted program of State entertain- ments when they will give the con onal reception. Mrs. Kellogg | and the ladies of the cabinet will observe their Wednesday after- | noons at home, as will also Mrs. Dawes, whose house on the hill is a | cheery place each Wednesday. | | THB Vice President and Mrs. Dawes will celebrate their thirty-ninth wedding anniversary Tuesday, and the weeks are full of demands on them for dinner parties and other social events. Canadian are announcing the expected arrival in that| Dominion, mU 5, of the SBecretary of State and Mrs. Kellon., who will visit Ottawa to repay the visit recently made to Wuhln;mn' by the Premier, the Right Hon. W. L. Mackenzie King. Arrangements | for the visit of the Secretary of State are being made by the United States Minister to Canada, Mr. William Phillips, whose guest he will be. MRS. HERBERT HOOVER, who is more and more in the public mind and eye as campaign days grow nearer, held a particularly interest- ing reception last Wednesday, when the Girl Scout officers were among her several hundred guests. Bhe is spending some days of this week in Boston, and tomorrow afternoon she will be honor guest and speaker at a meeting and tea in the home of Mrs. Walter C. Baylies, at 5 Commonwealth avenue. Mr, and Mrs. J h Leiter will give a reception following the dinner at the British embassy, when Mrs. Leiter's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. Frederick Sterling, United Btates Minister to Ireland, and Mrs. Sterling, who are their house guests, will assist the hosts. Ag the date for the Bal Boheme approaches, interest throughout the | entire city mounts high in this brilliant annual event of the Am! Club of Washington, and it seems as though the Natlon’s Capital would go straight back Lo the Middle Ages for one night at least on Monday. January 30. It is perhaps the only occasion of the season when Aiplomats and Federal officials, prominent social leaders, artists, actors, musiclans, dancers, one and all, don alike the motley garb of the carnival and enter whole-heartedly together into lhr| festive spirit provided by this beautiful ball of the arts. duous task of other times, when every official hostess maintained & house of her own and clubs and hotels were unknown as a soclal convenience, is much simplified. Two striking jllustrations of up-to- date co-operative entertainment were given last week in the really delightful reception hLeld al the George Washington Inn by the congressional women living there, when, on Monday, half the popula- ton of Washington seemed v move that way to pay thelr respects, and again &t the Congressional Club Wednesday, when Mrs, Guy Edward Campbell and Mre Edward McM. Beers received an equal number of visitors At the inn there was a decidedly gay atmosphere, with Mrs. Dwight F. Davis, Mrs Harry 8. New, Mrs. Peter Goelet Gerry, Mrs. Everett Banders and others presiding at the flower-decked tea table, with & generous number of assistants and a bevy of popular hostesses, Another interesting group of nine women who thus lln_l lified the matter of calling will be at home at the Congressional Club Thurs- day, February 2, from 4 0 6 o'clock, comprising the congressional group from the Btave of Washington and the Territory of Alaska, Mre Wesley L.
