Declaring he had never known a strike or lockout tn he profitable to an amployer or to emploves of a business, President George L. Berry of the In ternational Printing Pressmen and Assistants’ Union of North America. representing 50.000 organized workers, last night told local members that prosperity of the business in which they were engaged was of more mo- ment to the union and its members than to the employers themselves. The reason is. he added, that where only one owner or employer may be affected by lack of prosperity, proba- bly 100 employes would feel such adversity. He was the guest of honor at tne anniversary dinner of the Washington Newspaper Web Pressmen's Union, No. 6. at Harvey's Restaurant. - He opened his address by praising the record of the local organization in more than doubling its membership since its foundation and in bringing about improved conditions as to work and wages.
