ECENT rumors coming from Okla- homa City to the effect that the Cherokee Indians of Oklahoma are planning a court fight in an attempt to recover 1,600,000 acres of Texas lands, said to be worth at least §50,- 000,000, is {nteresting from a motion picture angle as well, in as much as William 8. Hart's forthcoming pro- duction, “Tumbleweeds,” has to do with Government dealings with Cher- okees in 1889, The Cherokee land strip, so called, was opened to thie humesteaders in that year by the Government, and the tremendous rush to locate homesteads 1s the basis of Mr. Hart's picture. The Cherokee strin lay between Oklahoma and Kansas and was a sort of neutral ground left in possession of the Indlans, who were able to lease certain portions of it for cattle ranches.
