THE SUNDAY ETAR, WA SHINGTON, D. C, SEPTEMBER 27, 1925—PART 1. ASSALS ALINONY WTHOUT DNORCE Men Made Slaves for Cash, Declares Justice Strong of New York. Epecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, September 26.—Point- TRADITION SHATTERED. Leipzig University Finally Names Physieal Instructor. Correspondence of the Associated Press. LEIPZIG, August 29.—The first German professorship for calisthenics has been conferred by the Lelpzig Uni- versity on Dr. Hermann Altrock, who has been an instructor of gymnastics at the Berlin Stadium. His appoint- ment virtually revolutionizes the time- honored tradition of a thousand years, that universities were solely intended for mental education, for the new pro- fessor of calisthenics is not a mere appendix, but a fully accredited mem- ber of the faculty. 'GROWERS OF DAHLIAS COMPETE OCT. 5 AND 6 Thirty-Five Classes Open to Ama- teur and Commercial En- trants in Show. The dahlla will strut itself in all the pomp and glory of its various vivid and somber colors, at Washing- ton’s annual dahla show, to be held October 5 and 6, in the building at F street northwest, which the chairman, 2. D. Blackistone, recently offered fev this purpose. In this annual event, in which both amateur and commercial growers alfke, they will ind 35 separate classes open to entrants. No entrance fee will be charged, nor will there be an admission charge for visitors. Everything is free. Entries may be made in either a vase or basket, according to the class entered. Prizes will be awarded on merit alone by the judges, who are Washington women vitally interested in_flower culture. Mr. Blackistone is exerting efforts to make this the biggest dahlia show ever held in Washington. This event for the past three years has been con- ducted upder his direction. Known dahlia experts will be pres- ent from out of town to discuss the dahlia and its culture. The dahlla. was first known to exist in the wilds of Mexico, where it was discovered by American floriculture experts, who brought it to this coun- try for analysis and experiment. They handled it with kid gloves for a long time, gradually subtracting from that single row of colors, the most attrac- tive and beautiful combination of colors. As evidence of its rapid rise, it is recalled that in the Fall of 1 flower show In Los Angeles, Calif., it wus_offered in open competition with the rose and the chrysanthe- mum, and carried off first prize for beauty. The following Fall a box of dahlias was sent from San Francisco to the New York show, where they were exhibited. MRS.
