As premier ©of Canada, Sir Robert has been chalr- man of many conferences relating to boundary. fishery and other problems between this country and the Domin- fon. Sir George Foster of the Cana- dian group was here for several months at the beginning of the World War. Dr. Antonio Facio, chief sur. geon of the hospital at Port Limon in Costa Rica, has made long visits to this country attending medical con- ventions, and he will receive much attention from his brothers of the healing arts in Washington. The first minister sent by the newly established republc of Finland, M. Armas Her- man Saastanolnen. is a delegate from that country. being now ome of its powerful leaders in the Chamber of Deputies. This envoy from Finland presented his credentlals to President Wilson in February, 1919. and he or- ganized the legation and the consular service of Finland before his recall in 1922, A titled journallst, well known in Washington in the personal as well as in the literarv sense, is Sir Robert Lynn, who fills a dual role. being in the British Commons from Ulster and also in the Ulster local legislative | body. Miss Engstrom, secretary of Baron Adelsweard, president of the Interna- tional Union, will be an important social figure during the sessions of the parliamentarians, and she will find but few laisure moments, due to her offi- | cial duties, for there are many distin- guished Swedes—scientists, educators and persons in other professions—resi- dent in Washington. Of the women who are delegates, two from Denmark are outstanding—Fru Mathilde Hau- echurtz, a distinguished lawyer from Copenhagen and for 15 years a mem- | ber of the Chamber of Deputies, and | Fru Signe Cleve. a highly successtul tarmer, who is chairman of the agri- cultural committee in the lower cham- ber. Claflin and his wife, who was Agnes Sanger, and thus comes from two of the oldest and most re- spected families of Brookiyn, N. Y. Mrs. Evans met her husband first while he was serving with the British commission to the League of Nationa, and the marriage occurred in Paris in the Fall of 1920, while Mr. and Mrs. Clafiiln were residing near Versailles. This will be the first visit of Capt. and Mrs. Evans to this country since their marriage, and they have been spend- Ing the past two weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Clafiin in their Jersey home. Mrs. Claflin was Miss Mary Stuart of Monterey, Calit., and her daughter and Capt. Evans will journey down from British Columbia, where they are golng with the British parliamenta- rians after the conferences in Wash- ington, and will pass the greater part of October visiting friends and rela- tives on the Pacific Coast. Lord Edward Montagu, who is the latest titled Briton to become & rancher in Alberta, Canada, is the younger of the two sons of the Duchess of Manchester, who was Miss Heleng Zimmermann of Cincinnati. Dr. Rudolf Kuraz was the last mem- ber of the original group of diplomats sent by the newly established Republic of Czechoslovakia to the legation in Washington. He came soon after the | |f arrival of the first Minister, Mr. Jan Masaryk.
