SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. HE WHITE HOUSE was opened Thursday night fof its first official dinner of the Autumn, the President entertaining for the French Debt Commission, and one of the largest receptions scheduled for the near future wiil be that for the Inter-Parlamentary Union, October 6, when Mrs. Coo.idge will undoubtedly receive with him, as the dele- gates include a large number of women. Next Sunday the President and Mrs. Coolidge will celebrate their twentieth wedding anniversary, but as Usual it is likely to be a strictly family affair. The First Lady of the Land, before her marriage, was Miss Grace A. Goodhue. RS. KELLOGG'S return to the Capital will almost complete the cabinet cirele and by the end of the week the Supreme Court circle also wili be rounded out, while the number of Senators and Representatives in- creases each day, though many are here for only a brief time to make arrangements for Winter quarte Calling lists for the Winter will have to be materially altered as many members of the cabinet as well as Senators have changed addresses since last season. Secretary of the Navy and Mrs. Wilbur will be close necighbors of the Secretary of State and Mrs. Kellogg, having taken a house just across Nincteenth street from them. HE French Debt Commission and the delegates to the Inter-Parliamen tary Union give an atmosphere of activity to Washington, and while so far the engagements of the commission have been of a purely official nature, such as the President’s dinner, the union brings hopes of a lively time. In fact, with an important list of. hostesses willing and ready to entertain both the foreign and “domestic” delegates and with Mrs. John Allan Dougherty as chairman, an unusual impetus will be given the carly days of October. ANY of the important women who have given Mrs. Dougherty their names to use in connection with the entertainment of the delegates to the Inter-Parliamentary Union are still absent from the city, but will no doubt arrive to more than perform their allotted dutics. Mrs. Thomas . Walsh has sent out at home cards for Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 o'clock, when she will receive for the delegates and has included in her invitation members of the cabinet and their wives and other high of- ficials A by delegates will go to New York to meet them. the Brazilian Ambas- one.
