The woman, having galloped off and spent a big lump of savings, decided to keep quiet. The official extended his remarks: “I know a man that takes his whole family to Colonial Beach for two weeks—foolish of him, with no bank account to speak of—and I never pick up a paper that I don't see where a passle of foolish men and women are | dding every whicherway—some of them idiots enough to go as far as Europe—instead of saving up for a| rainy dav. And while you think these things, the bells of the cathedral chime out, and because, doubtless, of your own association, the faint sound that comes to this far-off mound seems to voice benediction. LONDON, September 12 (#).—The sizes of paper are to be standardized in England and the terms, ‘I L and “quire,” used as measures for buying and selling since the time of Caxton, are.to become obsolete by an agreement arrived at between the Federation of Master Printers and the National Association of Whole- sale Stationers and Papermakers. The ream will hereafter be replaced by 1,000 sheets to secure the advan- tage of decimal calculations for the trade. Standardization will reduce the number of sizes from 40 to 18. Engineering Students Quit. Tt is estimated that less than 40 per cent of the students who orig- inally enroll in the leading colleges for engineering courses ever graduate in that course. The number who fal- ter is steadily mounting, it is said. Lack of natural ability is not the chiet reason given by the students in 38 uni- versities and colleges in the United States and Canada. Dislike for the work, long hours and arduous study and failure to see a satisfactory earn- ing_capacity in a short time after graduation are some of the reasons.
