SACRAMENTO, Calif, September 12 (#).—The State board of prison di- rectors has granted an Immediate parole to Richard Ford, serving a life term for participation in the W land hop fleld riots of 19 years ago, which resulted in the murders of two peace officials. A third official, shot in_the rioting, died of his wounds. The release of Ford is a partial vic- tory for organized labor in California, which for years has been endeavoring to secure clemency for him and Her- bert Suhr, Ford's partner. NEW YORK, September 12.—Sixty- eight Chinese were called before United States Commissioner Cotter to- day to prove their right to remain in this country. The prisoners were taken in raids last night by Federal narcotic agents, following the recent ultimatum by District Attorney Ban- ton that Chinatown must live in peace or its allen inhabitants suffer deporta- tion. A collection of revolvers, hatchets and knives taken from the prisoners was held as evidence. It was stated that the narcotic agents had destroyed two stills and large quantities of mash.
