Next, check ‘up your rheostats and potentiometers, See that one end of the-resistance elements is firmly an chored and making good contact Wwith one of the binding posts. Then make sure that the contact arm bears evenly and firmly on the resistance element. Check up to see that mount- ing screws do not interfere with the action of the contact arm. Also make sure that the resistance wire has not corroded or is in danger of breaking. Your grid condenser and leak should ibe of the best. A small item like this Jean cause a lot of trouble. If you suspect it, replace it with another. Testing the Audio Transformers. Your audio transformers are the next in line for inspection. The bind ing post connections should be tested. The voltmeter and battery test should be applied to make sure that the wind- ings are continuous, but keep in mind the fact that the high resistance of the winding will lower the reading orr the voltmeter. The primary wind- ing connection should give a higher reading than the secondary. If such is not the case when you test it, you have connected the transformer back- wards by interchanging the windings. Jacks should be given careful at- tentlon: Be sure that the springs are meking good. contact. Use a fine magnet file on the contacts so as to clean the surface and make good con- tact doubly sure. See that no solder- ing paste, grease or dirt has collected between the springs. If you get no results or get poor ones, your phones or loud speaker may be at fault. Test them with an- other set to make sure. It is possible that they may need adjustment.
