Mrs EDWARD T. CLARK., Vhose husband is Secretar to the Vice President). Slight Cessation Shown In Pace Held by Society, Despite Starting of Lent Two Cabinet Dinne;s. Several Embassy Affairs and Entertainment for Vice President and Mrs. Coolidge Among Week's Events. SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. XCEPT for a slight cessation in dancing, society folks have shown but little inclination to slacken their pace during Len Ash Wednesday was not free from some of the most important affairs of the season. Two cabinet dinners, several embassy din- ners and some important entertaining for the Vice President and Mrs. Coolidge brought the week quite up to the splendid standard maintained all during the winter, nor are the prospects lessening for this week, there being several dinner parties in honor of the Vice President and Mrs. Coolidge, and other important affairs are scheduled. LOOKING back.ever the season one must congratulate the firstjlady of the land on her generous hospitality. not only in a large, bt in a smaller, less formal manner, groups of women in official life and their out-of-town friends being received by appointment. These little groups ere received several times a week. and Mrs. Harding always took the most consummate pains to have them enjoy and know as much about life within the White House as possible. Her crowning attention to official women was in attending the annual breakfast of the Congressional Club, when she met several hundred women of the congressional body at one time. ND now that the rush of the season is over, it is to Mrs. Harding's credit that notwithstanding the excitement and physical strain she is quite able to compose herself and seek out every possible moment for rest, and almost for the first time since her residence there enjoy fully the comforts and beauty of the mansion where so many wonderful women before her time have predided. Mrs. Harding is fond of reading, of con- versation, cards and a bit of needlework or sewing. and of designing her own gowns, as well as of a few hours of practice on the piano from time to tiwe. all of which will fill in her Lenten days, accompanied, oi course, by the companionship of friends from time to time. 'OVERED with the glory of its annual breakfast last week, the Con gressional Club will continue its program for some time, the Friday afternoon teas with special guests and entertainment, the card parties and dances all meeting a long-felt want in official ranks. Bejore the formation of the club hundreds of women in the congressional set lived in Washington year by vear without ever comi: in touch, while now it dffords one of the most delightful social medivms in the capital. The breakfast last Monday was periectly planned and carried out in faultless iranner, the giited women lending their talents to the sprightly feature- program being especially appreciated. RS.
