Garrison. Quickly responding to complaints of the use of slot ma- chines in the county, thg constable served notice on merchants that such maclines must be eliminated. “There were about 400 such ma- chines in the county.” according toy ‘oustable Garrison, and “already T have turned the faces of 50 per cent of them to the wall. The others will have to be similarly turned or there; will be some prosecutions.” Constable Garrison intends to tour the entire county and serve notice jon merchants that ¢hey will be prose- lcuted unless the slot machines in their places of business. are removed or their use discontinued. He already had visited Hyattsville, Bladensburg and points as far north as Laurel, he said, and as far south as Marlboro, and the next few days he intends to visit other sections. Discussing his crusade against the | | slot machines, Constable Garrison | || states that in many places of business children were permitted to drop in their nickels and chance winning eight to one for their investment. Metal discs are obtained from the machines by those who are fortunate | |iil enough to win, the constable explain- ed, and they are accepted in payment for merchandise. Owners of the machines, he added, | receive approximately 400 per cent profit on their investments. One of the principal complaints made to the constable was that children were per- mitted to try their luck with the ma- chines. —_— Immense Floral Displays.
