Two boys were severely beaten by a mob of white youths, one of the negroes having to receive treatment at the Petersburg Hospital for his in- juries as a result of the battle. According to witnesses, the white youths were throwing snowballs at everybody and everything when one of the snowballs struck a colored boy ‘who was on the station platform. The colored boy secured the assistance of another and started to retaliate by throwing rocks, one of which struck & white boy In the eve. The two colored boys were then at- tacked by the white boys, and but for the timely intervention of an officer would have suffered fatal injuries.
