KEY WEST, FLORIDA, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 1952 “Mickey” Renna Wins $100 Prize In Drive-In Naming Contest Mon. “THE ISLANDER DRIVE-IN THEATER” SELECTED AS THE WINNER IN CONTEST It was “collaboration” between Simonton Street housewife and her- spouse that came up with the prizewinning name that made them $100 richer in the contest sponsor- ed by Joe Sirugo to find a name for his new Drive-in Theater on Stock Island. “The Islander Drive-in Thea- ter’ was the winner, submitted by Mrs. Mickey Renna, 1321 Simonton Street. Five judges, all of them from the legal profession, arrived at their decision only after 24 hours of deliberation yeasterday morn- ing. Mrs, Renna’s entry nosed out two other competitors who had . submitted entries using the smae name but who had neglected to complete the phrase. One woman had submitted simply the word, “Islander” while another gave her choice, “The Islander Drive-in.” Mrs. Renna’s name was selected the winner by the judges on the basis of its completeness.
