MADRID, Spain, June 1.—Vigor- ous demonstrations of students clamoring for Spanish control of Gibraltar occurred for the second time late today, about the time Sir Samuel Hoare, new British Ambas- sador, arrived to take up his post. Heavy guards placed before the British and French Embassies dur- ing the morning were maintained tonight. Nearly 150 policemen and assault guards were assigned to pro- tect the property of the Allied gov- ernments. Falangist (Nationalist) youths pa- raded through the principal thor- oughfares shouting, “We want Gibraltar!” Evening newspapers published new articles concerning the fortified Rock with which Great Britain commands the entrance to the Mediterranean.
