Real Estate I?ge—Crowds Attend Opening 0f Star Home Dogwood to Add to Attractiveness of - House This Week End By MARGARET NOWELL. Huge crowds attended .the open- ng last week of the fourth Silver Star Home of the year at 3750 Fordham road N.W., Spring Valley, which tomorrow will enter the sec- ond week of its exhibition period. ‘The house will remain open to the public through Sunday, May 19. Visitors to The Star home this week end will be treated to the beautiful sight of dogwood blossom- ing throughout' the Spring Valley section. These flowering trees, which have been planted through- out the section, should reach the height of their beauty tomorrow. ‘The new home, designed and built by the W. C. & A. N. Miller De- velopment Co., contains seven rooms, two baths and a lavatory. It is constructed of brick painted white and has been decorated and furnished by J. Harold Gooding, in- terior decorator. The dwelling bears the indorsement of the Silver Star Homes Committee, a group of five| housing experts, headed by James | S. Taylor of the Federal Housing Administration. Shopping Center Nearby. ‘The hcme in Spring Valley has all the assets of being in the coun- try, though it is still very much in touch with the necessities for a busy urban life. There is a shop- ping center four blocks away. There 1s bus service on Massachusetts ave- nue, with a community bus which connects with it. The community bus operates on schedule all day and evening. School children are taken to school in their own school bus, returned for a hot luncheon and returned to school in the after- noon. This house is placed toward the front of a deep lot which facilitates access to the garage and front doors, but best of all makes a delightful | garden area with outdoor fireplace | at the rear of the house, which is one of its most attractive features | offering privacy in outdoor living for the summer. The lawn area has space for games or garden. Series of Flagstone Steps. One approaches the house by ai series of flagstone steps which are| most attractive and call attention| to the unusually wide bay windows | and entrance door with iron rail-| ings and copper roofed canopy. ‘This house is distinctive in its win- dow treatment, with eight-light sash in all the upstairs windows, gracious bays near the front entrance and wherever there is a nice view pic- turé ‘windows with unbroken areas of plate glass are used to frame it. The downstairs of the house is arranged for ease in operation, with a center hall which goes back to the kitchen so the maid has access to the front door without passing through dining room or living room. ‘There are small coat closets on each side of the front door and room for a table and mirror at the foot of the stairs. The dining room is at the right with deep bay window at the front, which would be lovely filled with plants or a fine glass collection. The window on the long side of the room is set high so that a buffet may be placed below it and will offer competition to the bay window as an attractive feature of the room. There is plenty of room for wall furniture as well as the usual chairs and serving table. The draperies are of rich striped (See STAR HOME, Page B-6. — MONEY TO LOAN 4Y2 % Business Property Only.
